Zemblanity lies far to the north of Chaosia, across the sea in fact.
Once a great and peaceful country known as Serendipity, civil war tore the people apart.
A few great minds decided to make a virtual land that citizens who took neither side could escape to.
Soon after, the people fought until the only survivors were those that hid in the VL or among the many homes turned to ruin by the fighting.
The war ended, but it seems most of those that survived were children, for only they could see that neither side was right to fight for.
Many years have passed since then, and a new system arose, making the VL it's hub.
Living in the VL was indeed real, you felt pain, hunger and sickness. You could not die an unnatural death, but you still needed to eat and drink in the VL. This was possible, for magic was incorporated in it's design.
The VL, however, did cost money for it required resources to run.
Those who had no parents had to farm the resources necessary to keep VL running. They were paid to do so, but most money was spent on food. It took a while to save enough money to enter VL, but by then, new needs would arise: children, sickness, and violence.
Outside the VL tensions began to rise as gangs took up residence. Many weapons were left from the war, making it more easy to intimidate those weak and defenceless. Magic, was extremely rare to know, for all those who knew it died in the war. Those who develop magic, abuse it's power or are murdered out of F34R.
Climate:
The VL has an ideal climate for happiness, while keeping up with those random mishaps that make life interesting.
Zemblanity is always covered in dark grey clouds, making sunlight non-existent... It rains a lot, but flooding rarely occurs. On nights when Miit (the smaller moon) is full ,(for reasons still unknown) the clouds break revealing the night sky.
Side note: Zemblanity means inevitably unlucky and unhappy... It goes well with the cold and barren landscape of this melancholy land.
